Platforms Like ChatGPT Won’t Replace Jobs, Will Be A Co-Worker: TCS
Platforms for generative artificial intelligence, like ChatGPT, according to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), will produce a “AI co-worker” rather than eliminate jobs.
According to Milind Lakkad, chief human resources officer (CHRO) of the largest IT services company in the nation with over 6 lakh employees, such solutions can help increase efficiency without altering business models for organisations.
“..it (generative AI) will be a co-worker. It will be a co-worker and that co-worker will take time for them to understand the context of the customer,” Mr Lakkad said in an interview with PTI recently.
According to Lakkad, the context for a job to be carried out will be industry- and customer-centric and will continue to emanate from the person who is receiving assistance from such a coworker.
“It is not that jobs will get replaced, but the job definitions will change,” he added in the comments which will assuage concerns about future of jobs in the sector which is one of the biggest recruiters of engineering talent in the country.
Concerns have been raised about whether a trained human is really necessary to complete the task that a technology company delivers to clients in light of the development of platforms like ChatGPT. There are already instances of these systems producing whole codes. The introduction of such user-friendly platforms is one of the factors being blamed for the widespread mass layoffs by big IT corporations.
According to Mr. Lakkad, the environment in which a given customer operates is very significant, and the necessity to set one’s offers apart from those of competitors necessitates constant customer evolution.
According to him, the amount of effort required of humans versus generative AI platforms will differ depending on the business.
