Perplexity AI CEO Confirms Comet Browser for iOS to Rival Safari
Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas has subtly confirmed that the company’s Comet AI browser is under development for iOS and could be released soon. Responding to a user post on X, Srinivas said Comet will be the “first real competition” to Apple’s Safari browser on iPhones, noting that even Chrome has struggled to capture significant market share on iOS. The Comet AI browser, first launched for PC in July and later opened for Android pre-registrations in September, is not yet available on the App Store.
According to a report by MoneyControl, Srinivas described Comet as a “dynamic copilot” that helps users navigate the web efficiently while offering transparent source citations. The AI-powered browser is part of Perplexity’s broader mission to make information retrieval more intelligent and interactive, bridging the gap between search and task execution.
Positioned as a “browser for agentic search,” Comet transforms web browsing into an active, conversational experience. It can interpret user intent, streamline workflows, and reduce the need for multiple tabs or apps. The browser also includes a sidebar assistant capable of summarizing web pages, answering queries, and performing tasks like booking hotels, sending emails, or online shopping — marking a major step forward in AI-assisted browsing.
