Pak Government’s Twitter Account Withheld In India, 2nd Time In 3 Months
India has blocked access to the Pakistani government’s Twitter account. According to reports, there have been two similar incidents recently.
Although it had been blocked earlier in July, this account was now visible. Once more, the account’s statement about being withheld in India was visible today.
When attempting to access the Twitter handle, the message “@GovtofPakistan account has been withheld in India in response to a court demand” appears. Twitter policies state that this type of action is only taken in response to a legitimate legal requirement, such as a court order.
Indian users are currently unable to access the Pakistani government’s “@GovtofPakistan” Twitter feed.
Six Pakistan-based YouTube news stations were among the 16 that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had previously blocked for propagating false information about India’s national security, foreign policy, and law and order.
Twitter stated that it “may be necessary to limit access to specific content in a particular jurisdiction from time to time” if it “receives a valid and properly scoped request from an authorised body.”
Such withholdings will only apply to the particular jurisdiction that issued the legitimate legal demand or if it was determined that the content broke local law(s), according to the social media juggernaut. For propagating hate speech against India, the central government has so far blocked more than 100 YouTube channels, four Facebook pages, five Twitter accounts, and three Instagram profiles.
