Omicron Concern; Review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will convene a review meeting today to assess the Omicron situation in the country. The meeting, which will be attended by top officials in the health sector, will discuss Omicron outbreaks and preventive measures.

At a meeting late last month, the prime minister called for tougher restrictions, including on international airports. Meanwhile, the number of Omicron victims in the country has crossed 220. According to figures released by the Ministry of Health, Delhi has the highest number of Omicron cases. A review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be held in New Delhi today.

States tighten Covid 19 restrictions in the wake of the Omicron expansion. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has banned all cultural events in Delhi, including Christmas and New Year celebrations. In Haryana, Health Minister Anil Vij said that from January 1, only those who have received two doses of the vaccine will be allowed to enter public places.
