Modi Govt Approves 7 New Bullet Train Corridors to Expand India’s High-Speed Rail Network
The Central Government has approved seven new high-speed rail corridors as part of its vision to expand India’s bullet train network beyond the Mumbai–Ahmedabad project, which is currently under construction. The proposed routes include Mumbai–Pune, Pune–Hyderabad, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, Hyderabad–Chennai, Chennai–Bengaluru, Delhi–Varanasi, and Varanasi–Siliguri.
These corridors are designed to connect major economic, industrial, technology, and tourism hubs across the country, significantly reducing travel times between key cities. The expansion reflects India’s long-term commitment to developing a modern, high-speed transportation system.
While construction timelines have not yet been announced, each project will undergo feasibility studies, regulatory approvals, funding arrangements, and land acquisition processes before work begins. The government has also outlined expected travel times, including 48 minutes between Mumbai and Pune, 73 minutes between Bengaluru and Chennai, and 3 hours 15 minutes between Delhi and Varanasi.
