Microsoft Outage Rumours Coincide With Major Flight Disruptions at Bengaluru Airport
Flight operations at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport were heavily disrupted on December 3, as IndiGo cancelled 42 flights—22 arrivals and 20 departures—citing operational challenges. Passengers faced delays and cancellations throughout the day, with the airline attributing the disruptions to a combination of technical issues, airport congestion, and other operational requirements. Similar disruptions were reported a day earlier, with 20 IndiGo flights cancelled on December 2.
Arrivals and departures connecting major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Goa, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad were among those affected. As check-in systems at several airports—especially Hyderabad—experienced glitches, airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express switched to manual check-in and boarding processes. Delhi Airport also issued an advisory warning of potential delays as some domestic carriers faced technical and operational challenges.
Amid widespread reports linking the disruptions to a Microsoft Windows outage, the company issued a clarification rejecting the claims. Microsoft stated that there were no outages on Windows affecting airport operations globally. Meanwhile, airlines continue working to stabilise their schedules, offering alternate flights or refunds to impacted passengers as operations gradually return to normal.
