Maran Group Launches Tamil Nadu’s First Micro-Drama Platform ‘KadhaiShorts’

Former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and the Maran Group have entered the next-generation entertainment space with the launch of KadhaiShorts, Tamil Nadu’s first dedicated micro-drama platform. Announced by Karan Dayanidhi Maran on Thursday, the mobile-first platform focuses on delivering hyperlocal and culturally rooted stories through two-minute episodic “Kutti Series” designed for modern smartphone audiences. The launch comes months after a truce in the long-standing family dispute between Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanithi Maran.

KadhaiShorts currently features original Tamil content across six genres, with more than 100 projects already in production. The platform plans to expand into Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, and Bengali by the end of the current financial year. Adopting a pay-per-series model starting at ₹20, the platform aims to make short-form entertainment affordable and accessible while capitalising on the growing popularity of mobile-native content consumption in India and globally.

Speaking about the venture, Karan Dayanidhi Maran described micro-drama as the “next major entertainment format” built for mobile-only audiences, adding that KadhaiShorts aims to lead the category through original storytelling and strong cultural relevance. Alongside the platform, the company has also launched KadhaiClub, an initiative designed to support aspiring writers, actors, editors, directors, and creators in adapting to vertical storytelling formats. By March 2027, KadhaiShorts plans to create over 4,000 opportunities across production and creative sectors while expanding its storytelling-driven entertainment ecosystem.
