Maharashtra Restaurants to Raise Food Prices by 10–15% Ahead of Diwali
Restaurants across Maharashtra are expected to increase menu prices by 10–15% over the next 8–10 days, ahead of Diwali. The Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR) said the proposed hike is driven by rising costs of raw materials, commercial LPG, rent, dairy products and other operational expenses.
The price increase could affect breakfast items, thalis, dine-in meals and food-delivery orders. For example, an ₹80 plate of idli could cost around ₹88–92, while a ₹90 sada dosa could rise to approximately ₹99–104. However, the actual increase will vary depending on each restaurant’s location, operating costs and pricing decisions.
Restaurant associations also highlighted rising staff expenses, cleaning costs, training requirements and hygiene-related investments. AHAR president Vijay K. Shetty said the revisions would help restaurants manage higher expenses while maintaining food quality and service standards. Industry representatives also indicated that alcoholic beverage prices could increase following changes in excise fees, with further food price hikes possible if costs continue to rise.
