Luxembourg: A small sovereign state in Europe

Luxembourg is a beautiful country situated in the continent of Europe. It is a small landlocked country situated between Germany, France and Belgium. Notably, Luxembourg City, one of the four capitals of European Union, is the capital of the one of the least populated country in the continent.

The country, though is tiny, is a giant in terms of its financial capability. It is a developed country and is one of the strongest economies in the continent. Steel production, chemical manufacturing, rubber and agriculture are the main strength of the Luxembourg economy. Still, what makes this economy indestructible is its private finance sector. It is one of the popular safe heavens in the continent. A recent study ranks the country just behind Switzerland. Anyway, the pressure is high over the country to relook its private banking rules. The country has recently hit headlines in India. B Medical Systems, which is a Luxembourg based vaccine cold chain and medical refrigeration service, has inked a crucial deal with Adani Group, which is powerful conglomerate based in the Asian superpower of India. The deal proposes to set up manufacturing facility and technology initiatives in India. It also focuses on a technological collaboration to bring solar powered vaccine logistics solutions to the Asian country.

Few months ago, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a virtual meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart, Xavier Bettel. During the meeting, the leaders discussed several important topics.

The development implies that India is looking to step up its bilateral relation with the European country with mutually beneficial trade deals.

Luxembourg is a founding member of the European Union. It is also the member of the United Nations, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.

It was a member of United Nations Security Council. It was the first time that a tiny country from the continent of Europe entered into the top seat in the UNSC.

Luxembourg is not less than a true heaven. It holds low Unemployment Rate, high Human Development Index and high Income Per Capita. Its passport is the fifth powerful passport in the world. It enjoys visa-free access to at least 187 countries.

The history of the country is as dark as the history of every European country. The country has gone through several twists and turns. Interestingly, it is the world’s only remaining sovereign grand duchy. The country is headed by Henri, who is the eldest son of Grand Duke Jean and Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium and a first cousin of King Philippe of Belgium.

Though it is a constitutional monarch, it upholds a powerful democratic value system with a sound representative democracy structure.
