KKR in talks for $1B+ majority stake in Medicover India hospital arm
KKR is in advanced discussions to acquire a majority stake in Swedish healthcare company Medicover’s India hospital business for at least $1 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter. The deal would significantly expand KKR’s presence in India’s growing healthcare sector.
Medicover confirmed in a statement that it is in talks with KKR regarding a potential sale of its Indian operations, where it currently holds a 66.9% stake. The company operates 26 hospitals with around 6,000 beds in India and has also been preparing for a possible IPO, though it said discussions may not necessarily lead to a transaction.
The India unit generated $234.6 million in revenue in 2025 and faces competition from major hospital chains like Apollo Hospitals, Aster, and Fortis Healthcare. The sector continues to attract strong investor interest due to rising healthcare demand and expanding insurance coverage in the country.
