Kerala’s district collector joins students in a flash mob, and the video goes viral

The barrier between the general public and bureaucrats is often broken thanks to social media, as the latter appear more approachable these days. A district collector in Kerala is gaining popularity online after going above and beyond by participating in a flash mob with college students.

Divya S Iyer, Pathanamthitta district collector, enthralled everyone by dancing with Catholicate College students who were preparing for an arts festival. She delighted not only those present, but also those who watched her performance online, as she danced to ‘Nagada Sang Dhol’ from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.

The impromptu performance occurred when the collector arrived at the district stadium to oversee the preparations for the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam’s arts festival, according to the Malayala Manorama. Even though the flash mob was coming to an end, the IAS officer did not hesitate to join in.

Iyer was watching the performance with her baby and other family members when some students approached her and asked if she would be willing to join the dance. “They didn’t have to persuade me much,” the IAS officer later told the Mathrubhumi, “because I enjoy dancing and singing so much.”

“I expected to take a few steps, but their energy was overwhelming.” “Flash mobs are all about energy,” Iyer said, adding that she had no idea the video of her dance had gone viral.

Netizens praised her talent as well as her gesture, stating that her graceful movements were evidently the result of years of classical dance training. During her school and college years, Iyer won several titles in Kuchipudi, Odissi, and Kathakali, according to the Kerala Kaumudi.
