Karnataka Opposition leaders condemn the arrest of D K S

Almost all opposition leaders in the state of Karnataka have strongly condemned the arrest of D K Shivakumar. The senior Congress leader was arrested recently by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a black money case.

The trouble for the Congress leader began in the year 2017. It was when the Income Tax department raided some of the properties connected to the leader.

The present ED case pertains to the seizure of over 8.5 crore Indian rupees from the premises in New Delhi linked to the leader.

Apart from this case, other two cases are pending against the Congress leader, who is considered as the backbone of the party in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The opposition leaders who have condemned the ED action include JD(S) state president and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Congress veteran leader Malliakarjun Kharge.

The leaders have termed the arrest as a politically motivated action. They have called it as the misuse of power bestowed on the ruling by the people of the state.

D K S is a very powerful leader in the state. He has a very powerful support base in the party, though he is not very popular among the electorate of the state. He is a former state minister. The party sees him as a trouble solver; it was with his help the party survived the biggest test of survival in the state it faced immediately after the recent Assembly Election.
