Indications of terrorism: Extreme vigilance in three districts of Karnataka

Extreme vigilance has been declared in three districts following the discovery of satellite phone calls from the coastal and Malnad forests of Karnataka to foreign countries. They use satellite phones, which were banned in the country in 2012.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has issued a Red Alert following reports of strong militancy in Dakshina Kannada, Mangalore, Karwar and Chikmagalur in northern Kannada. These are also Naxal-affected areas.

Two weeks ago, the NIA and police intensified surveillance along the coast of Karnataka and nearby forest areas following an intelligence report that 12 militants in two boats had reached the Alappuzha coast from Sri Lanka to cross into Pakistan.
