Indian Professionals Out-Earn Germans in Median Pay, Driven by MINT Jobs
Indian professionals in Germany have emerged as the highest-paid foreign workforce, earning a median gross monthly income of €5,393 in 2024, surpassing the median German wage of €4,177 by over €1,200, according to a study by the Institute of the German Economy (IW). The findings highlight the rising economic influence of Indian talent, particularly in high-skill, technology-driven roles.
The strong earnings of Indian workers are largely attributed to their concentration in MINT professions — mathematics, IT, natural sciences, and engineering — sectors that command above-average wages in Germany. Since 2012, the number of Indians in these roles has grown nearly ninefold, with around one-third of full-time Indian employees aged 25–44 working in these high-demand occupations, underscoring their critical role in Germany’s competitiveness and innovation.
The trend has been reinforced by the influx of Indian students pursuing higher education in Germany, many of whom remain in the country in research, academic, and advanced technical roles. Government policies aimed at attracting skilled workers from India have further bolstered this workforce, leading to a highly paid, high-skilled segment that is reshaping Germany’s labour market and innovation landscape.
