India Unveils Global Sports Calendar to Boost 2036 Olympic Bid

India has announced plans to host 29 international sporting events over the next two years as part of its campaign to strengthen its bid for the 2036 Olympic Games. The country is also preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad and is bidding for the 2038 Asian Games, aiming to establish itself as a leading destination for major global sporting events.

According to the Sports Ministry, India has already hosted 36 international competitions across 15 cities since last year and plans to organise a total of 65 events by 2028. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the experience gained from hosting these events will improve infrastructure, enhance technical expertise, and strengthen India’s ability to organise multi-sport competitions on the scale of the Olympics.

This year’s schedule includes the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, along with the World Amateur Snooker and Badminton Championships. The government also said national sports federations are actively pursuing bids for additional continental and world championships to further reinforce India’s credentials as a global sports host.
