India Seeks 2027 LPG Imports From U.S. Through Term Tender
India’s state-owned LPG importers have issued a joint tender seeking around 2.75 million metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas from the United States for delivery in 2027, according to a document reviewed by Reuters. Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are seeking four very large gas carrier cargoes each month under the tender.
Each delivered cargo would contain about 46,000 tons of LPG, evenly divided between propane and butane, with deliveries scheduled monthly throughout 2027. The tender also seeks one additional 45,000-ton cargo per month on a free-on-board basis. The tender remains valid until October 22.
India is the world’s second-largest LPG importer after China, with imports accounting for about 66% of its total LPG consumption. In 2025, around 90% of India’s 21.85 million metric tons of LPG imports came from the Middle East. Disruptions to fuel supplies following the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran earlier this year prompted India to introduce emergency measures to increase LPG availability for households.
