India Promises Exam Reforms Amid Growing Student Protests
The Central government has assured students that it is committed to reforming India’s examination system following widespread protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the government is ready to discuss students’ concerns in Parliament and promised accountability, transparency, and meaningful reforms to strengthen the examination process.
The protests, which began as an online campaign by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have grown into the largest youth-led movement against the government in recent years. Thousands of students and supporters marched in New Delhi demanding Pradhan’s resignation, while Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were briefly detained during a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence before being released.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also pledged strict action against those responsible for exam paper leaks and called for a foolproof examination system. Opposition leaders have demanded a detailed parliamentary debate, alleging repeated exam leaks, rising education costs, and increasing pressure on students. The government has indicated that discussions on reforms and students’ concerns will take place in Parliament.
