India Approves ₹3.16 Trillion Extension of PM-KISAN Cash Support Scheme Until 2031
The Indian government has approved an allocation of ₹3.16 trillion to continue the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for another five years, extending it through the 2030–31 fiscal year. The decision, cleared by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to strengthen rural incomes and support farmers with direct financial assistance.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments, transferred directly to their bank accounts. The programme is designed to ease farmers’ cash-flow challenges, encourage investment in agriculture, and reduce dependence on informal sources of credit.
Since its launch in 2019, the scheme has disbursed more than ₹4.47 trillion across 23 instalments. The latest payment reached over 94.9 million farmers, while women farmers have received more than ₹1.06 trillion under the initiative, accounting for nearly one-fourth of all beneficiaries.
