India Advises Citizens to Avoid Iran Travel Amid Violent Protests

India has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran, especially Tehran, as widespread protests across the country have turned violent. The government asked Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) currently in Iran to exercise heightened caution, stay away from protest sites, and regularly follow updates from the Indian Embassy in Tehran through official channels.

Indian residents in Iran on long-term visas have also been advised to register with the embassy if they have not already done so, to ensure timely communication and assistance in case the situation worsens. The advisory comes amid growing unrest driven by Iran’s deepening economic crisis and the sharp fall in the national currency, which has triggered demonstrations in dozens of cities.

According to human rights groups, hundreds have been arrested and several people killed in clashes between protesters and security forces. Iranian authorities have adopted a hardline response, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that protesters would be dealt with firmly. The unrest has drawn international attention, with sharp exchanges between Iran and the United States further raising tensions.
