‘I pray to God nobody insults you when you grow old,’ says Amitabh Bachchan in response to trolls
Amitabh Bachchan has responded to fans who mocked him for wishing them a good morning late on Sunday. The actor thanked people in chaste Hindi for the taunts and insults, and explained how he pulled an all-nighter and went to bed late, leading to the late greetings.
“A good morning to you,” the megastar wrote on Facebook (in Hindi). Since he shared this around 11:30 p.m., his fans have begun to troll him, most in a lighthearted manner, but some with malice and abuse. “Don’t you think you wished good morning too soon?” one sarcastically wrote in Hindi. “Thankful for the taunt,” Amitabh responded. I worked all night and woke up late, so I sent greetings. I apologise if you were offended.”
While dignified, the actor was ruthless. One of the comments read, “Abey Buddhe dopahar ho gaye (Old man, it’s afternoon).” The actor’s response was well received by his fans. “I pray to God that when you grow old, no one insults you,” Amitabh wrote.
Some people mocked Amitabh for waking up late and then went off on a tangent. “I do not drink, make others drink Madhushala,” he responded to a comment that the actor must have consumed country liquor the night before. The actor’s father, acclaimed poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, wrote the poem Madhushala.
Many others stood by Amitabh as he faced insults. “People are commenting as if they wake up with the Brahmamuhurtha (one hour and 36 minutes before sunrise),” one person wrote. Many people praised the veteran actor’s work ethic and how, despite his age, he still works all night.
Amitabh was last seen on the job in Runway 34. Brahmstra, a fantasy epic film, Uyarndha Manithan, and Butterfly, a Kannada film, are among his upcoming projects.
