Hyundai Motor India Profit Falls 24% Amid Rising Costs
Hyundai Motor India reported a nearly 24% decline in its second-quarter profit on October 28, 2026, as rising raw material costs weighed on earnings. The automaker recorded a profit after tax of ₹1,196 crore for the quarter ended September 30, compared with ₹1,572 crore in the same period last year.
Despite the decline in profitability, the company recorded strong revenue growth. Revenue from operations increased to ₹20,696 crore from ₹17,461 crore a year earlier. However, total expenses surged 24% to ₹19,302 crore, largely driven by higher material costs. Demand for vehicles remained resilient, supported by the continued impact of tax cuts introduced the previous year.
Indian automakers are facing increased pressure from rising prices of raw materials, including steel and copper, amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Analysts also expect tougher year-on-year comparisons in the second half of the financial year as last year’s tax cuts boosted vehicle sales. Hyundai’s results followed Maruti Suzuki’s quarterly earnings report, which also showed pressure on profits due to higher costs. Hyundai Motor India shares were trading 1.3% higher at ₹1,886.70 as of 3 p.m. IST on Wednesday.
