Huge setback for BJP in Jharkhand
The BJP has suffered a huge setback in the Indian state of Jharkhand, as the Congress, along with its allies like the JMM, has secured a comfortable lead in at least 42 of the total 81 seats in the state, strengthening its claim for the seat of power of the mineral rich state – which has been considered as the bastion of the saffron party until Today morning.
It is yet to be seen does the development have anything to do with the ongoing movement against the central government in connection with the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Anyway, the Congress-JMM combine has failed to reduce the BJP beyond the comfortable strength of around 28 seats, paving way for the emergence of a crucial question that whether the opposition has succeeded in making the complete use of the anti-incumbency factor and the ongoing movement against the saffron politics.
In the present Assembly, the BJP has around 44 seats and the Congress-JMM combine has around 22 seats; of this 22, at least sixteen belong to the JMM.
The latest political development in the state is likely to cause a serious impact in the political hemisphere of the country – which is at present in a highly turbulent state due to the ongoing agitation against the central government in relation with the CAA.
