Google Transforms Fitbit Into AI-Driven Health Platform With Gemini-Powered Coach
Google has announced a major transformation of the Fitbit ecosystem with the launch of the new Google Health app and a Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, marking a shift from traditional fitness tracking to a broader AI-driven wellness platform. Beginning May 19, the Fitbit app will automatically transition into the Google Health app, bringing a redesigned interface, deeper AI integration, and expanded health monitoring features. The new platform will combine wellness data from Fitbit devices, Pixel Watch, Health Connect, and Apple Health to create a more unified user experience.
The redesigned app introduces dedicated sections for Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health, along with customizable dashboards for personalized insights. Google stated that users will continue to have control over their health information, emphasizing that Fitbit health data will not be used for advertising purposes. While the Fitbit app branding is being retired, Fitbit-branded hardware devices will continue, including the newly launched screenless Fitbit Air tracker focused on passive wellness monitoring and continuous health tracking.
Alongside the app overhaul, Google is launching the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach in India through Google Health Premium, previously known as Fitbit Premium. The AI assistant is designed to deliver personalized workout plans, sleep guidance, nutrition insights, and mental wellness support based on user habits and health data. The system also supports image and document-based logging, allowing users to upload photos of meals, workout charts, or gym boards for automatic tracking. The Health Coach will roll out between May 19 and May 26 and will be available through subscriptions priced at ₹99 per month or ₹999 annually, while also being included with Google AI Pro and Ultra plans.
