‘Goodies Bhi, Baddy Bhi,’ says Amul about the Thomas Cup victory

On Sunday, the Indian men’s badminton team made history by winning the Thomas Cup in Bangkok. India’s victory over 14-time champion Indonesia has sparked nationwide celebrations. The team has received praise from all over India and the world.

Amul, a dairy company, has also jumped on board, posting a humorous topic on social media. The Amul girl is shown holding a bat and standing with open arms, making the victory sign. She is surrounded by eight enthusiastic badminton players. The background colours of the Indian national flag add to the overall effect of the topical, which reads “Thomaska Cup!” and “Goodies Bhi, Baddy Bhi.”

Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, world number 8 doubles players Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, and others all played outstandingly well in the run-up to the historic victory.

In a thrilling tie, Lakshya Sen defeated Anthony Ginting 8-21, 21-17, 21-16 to give India a perfect start. Satwik and Chirag of India defeated Ahsan-Sukamuljo 18-21, 23-21, 21-19 in the most sensational victory of their careers, giving India a 2-0 lead. Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonatan Christie 21-15, 23-21 in the third game to make it 3-0. They accomplished this without losing a single match in the final.

In successive rounds, the team defeated badminton royalty Malaysia, Denmark, and Indonesia, edging closer to history.
