Glenn Maxwell Opts Out of IPL 2026 Auctions After 13 Seasons
Australia’s veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided to withdraw from next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auctions in Abu Dhabi, bringing an end to his 13-season association with the tournament. Maxwell, who was bought by Punjab Kings for 42 million rupees ($467,000) last season, endured a disappointing campaign with just 48 runs and four wickets in seven matches before being released by the franchise in November.
Maxwell, 37, announced his decision on Instagram, expressing deep gratitude for the role the IPL played in shaping his cricketing journey. Calling it a “big call,” he credited the league for helping him grow both as a player and as a person, while cherishing the memories created with world-class teammates, passionate fans, and iconic franchise experiences since his debut in 2012.
His withdrawal follows similar decisions by Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell, who also ruled themselves out of IPL 2026 last week. Du Plessis will participate in the Pakistan Super League, while Russell has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders’ coaching staff. The IPL 2026 auction is scheduled for December 16.
