Former finance minister Arun Jaitley declines to accept ministerial post offer

Former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who held several portfolios including the defence in the 1st NDA government, has politely declined to accept the ministerial post, offered to him by the 2nd NDA government, which is going to take charge in the centre in few days, citing medical reasons.

In a letter sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has requested not to consider him for any ministerial post.

As per the letter, his health condition demands his full attention so he may not be able to concentrate in the political and administrative matters at this moment.

The letter has been publicised by the former minister himself through his social media platforms.

Since the beginning of this year, Mr. Jaitley is not active in politics. Due to his bad health, he could not even present the last budget of the NDA 1st, which was supposed to be presented by him. In the election campaign sessions also, he was not active.

In the absence of the legend, Piyush Goyal, who presented the last budget of the NDA 1st and handled the finance minister portfolio as a caretaker finance minister, is likely to be asked to continue in the post.

The Council of Minister of the NDA 2nd is expected to be sworn in soon.
