For The First Time Since 1949, Army Day Parade Moves Out Of Delhi
Tomorrow at Parade Ground, MEG & Center in Bengaluru, the Army Day parade—which was formerly held in Delhi—will be held outside of the national capital for the first time.
Since the ceremonies began in 1949, the 75th Army Day has never before been held outside of Delhi. Following a review of the parade and the presentation of valour medals, the Army Service Corps (ASC) Tornadoes will put on a daring motorbike performance, followed by a skydiving display by the Paratroopers, dangerous leaps, and an Army Aviation Corps fly-by of its helicopters.
Every year on January 15, the Army Day is observed to mark the date when General (Later Field Marshal) KM Carriappa, the first Indian army commander, succeeded General Sir FRR Bucher as the last British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
The march would take place at several field commands throughout India to encourage a closer bond with the community, according to the Southern Command Station Commander.
The celebrations will be overseen by the Southern Command, which has its headquarters in Pune, this year.
The Cariappa Procession Ground in the Delhi Cantonment used to host the Army Day parade prior to 2023.
The annual fly-past and parade on Air Force Day by the Indian Air Force was also relocated last year from the Hindon air base near Delhi to Chandigarh.
