Flipkart Eyes Entry Into India’s Booming Ticketing Market

Flipkart, owned by Walmart, is planning to expand into India’s fast-growing ticketing sector by offering movie and event bookings, according to sources. The move comes as demand for live entertainment surges across the country, driven by rising disposable incomes, large-scale concerts, and popular sporting events.

The company is expected to launch the service as early as May, entering a competitive market dominated by platforms like BookMyShow and Zomato’s District. Flipkart is also reportedly preparing to pilot food delivery services, signaling a broader push into high-growth but low-margin consumer segments.

The expansion aligns with Flipkart’s preparations for a potential public listing in India, as it strengthens its business portfolio. However, the company will face stiff competition in sectors where established players have scaled through aggressive spending, even as profitability remains a challenge.
