Everyone in my journey deserves credit: Shruti Sharma is the winner of the Civil Services Exam

Shruti Sharma, who topped the UPSC civil services exam 2021, said on Monday that her “extremely supportive” parents and friends aided her in her difficult and time-consuming journey.
Ms Sharma, a Delhi resident and alumna of Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College, said the result surprised her and was a pleasant surprise.

“I owe credit to everyone who helped me along the way, especially my parents, who were incredibly supportive, and my friends who guided me,” she said.

Ms Sharma received her post-graduate degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and has spent the last four years studying for the civil services as a student of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Residential Coaching Academy. The University Grants Commission (UGC) funds the RCA to provide free coaching and residential facilities to students from underrepresented groups such as scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and minorities.

According to a Jamia official, 23 students from the coaching academy passed the exams.

Ankita Agarwal and Gamini Singla came in second and third place, respectively, in the UPSC’s civil services examination 2021 results released on Monday.

According to the UPSC, 685 candidates qualified for the prestigious exam.

The UPSC conducts the civil services examination in three stages – preliminary, main, and interview – every year to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
