Eureka Forbes Investigates Child Labour Findings at Supplier
Indian electronics company Eureka Forbes has launched an internal investigation after authorities found four children aged 14 to 16 working at a supplier in New Delhi. The National Human Rights Commission has asked Eureka Forbes, Havells and Hindustan Unilever’s India unit to examine their supply chains following the discovery at electrical wiring and component maker YY Harness.
Delhi authorities rescued the children from the supplier on Monday. Case documents reviewed by Reuters said the children had been working six days a week and were paid between $105 and $125 a month. Police are investigating the incident, while YY Harness has not responded to requests for comment.
Eureka Forbes said it was taking the allegations seriously and had begun an immediate review and audit of its supplier practices. Hindustan Unilever denied that the vendor was its business partner, while Havells did not respond to Reuters’ queries. The National Human Rights Commission has urged companies to urgently strengthen supply-chain checks to prevent child labour.
