Embraer Eyes India’s Military Aircraft Deal as Tender Nears
Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer expects India to move forward in the coming months with a major military transport aircraft tender, according to CEO Francisco Gomes Neto. Speaking on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Neto said the company anticipates India will soon issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for between 60 and 80 transport aircraft.
Embraer is positioning its C-390 Millennium as a strong contender in the competition, where it will face rivals including the C-130 Hercules from Lockheed Martin. The company views India as a strategically important market and believes the procurement process is gathering momentum.
Neto added that industry feedback suggests India aims to finalize its decision by the end of 2027, providing a clear timeline for bidders. Embraer has already partnered with Mahindra in India to support its C-390 campaign and strengthen its local presence ahead of the expected tender.
