Elon Musk Says India and China Are Reshaping Global Economic Power

Elon Musk has pointed to a major shift in global economic power, saying “the balance of power is changing” as India and China emerge as the primary drivers of world growth. Sharing data based on IMF estimates, Musk highlighted how emerging economies are increasingly shaping global expansion, while the relative contribution of advanced Western nations continues to decline.

China is projected to contribute 26.6% of global real GDP growth in 2026, followed by India at 17%, together accounting for nearly 44% of worldwide economic expansion. In contrast, the United States is expected to contribute about 9.9%, while Germany, Europe’s largest economy, adds less than 1%. Other emerging economies such as Indonesia, Türkiye, Vietnam, Brazil and Nigeria are also set to play notable roles in global growth.

Overall, the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to generate about half of global economic growth in 2026, reflecting the impact of large populations, faster growth rates and ongoing urbanisation. Musk’s comment echoes a broader consensus among economists that economic gravity is shifting away from the transatlantic axis toward Asia and the Global South, with potential long-term implications for geopolitical influence, global governance and investment flows.
