ED Tightens Grip on Anil Ambani Group with Fresh ₹3,000-Crore Asset Attachments
The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its scrutiny of the Anil Ambani–led Reliance ADA Group by attaching over ₹3,000 crore worth of additional assets across major Indian cities. The latest action covers nearly 40 properties, including premium residential holdings in Mumbai’s Pali Hill as well as commercial and land assets in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Pune, Thane, Chennai, Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh. This adds to the recent attachment of the 132-acre Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City land in Navi Mumbai, bringing the total value of seized assets to more than ₹7,500 crore.
The attachments are part of an ongoing money-laundering probe into the financial operations of Reliance Home Finance and Reliance Commercial Finance. Investigators allege that funds borrowed from lenders — including Yes Bank — were diverted through a web of interconnected entities rather than being used for legitimate lending activities. The ED claims the funds were used to evergreen old loans and routed to companies indirectly linked to the group. Officials have flagged weak documentation, poor credit appraisal, and instances of loans disbursed even before sanction, calling the pattern irregular and opaque.
The Reliance ADA Group has denied any wrongdoing, arguing that many of the attached assets belong to Reliance Communications, which has been under a resolution professional for years. The group maintains that its active businesses such as Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power remain unaffected, stressing that Anil Ambani holds no board positions in key listed entities. As the ED’s most aggressive action against the group in recent years, the outcome will hinge on the legal contest ahead — with potential implications for creditor recoveries, ongoing insolvency proceedings, and the broader corporate sector’s scrutiny over related-party financial transactions.
