Delhi government tightens controls on third wave

Delhi Government imposes more restrictions. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that level one restrictions will be imposed under the Covid Karma scheme. Level One restrictions apply to services other than essential services.

Schools and colleges will be closed. The number of employees in private companies has been reduced to 50 per cent. The number of people who can attend weddings and funerals will be reduced to twenty. Only 50 per cent of passengers will be allowed on buses and metros. Arvind Kejriwal said a detailed order on the restrictions would be issued soon.

According to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia, two vaccines and one Covid drug were approved in a single day in the country. The health minister lauded the country for getting more vaccines to strengthen the Covid fight. This brings to eight the number of vaccines approved for emergency use in the country. The vaccine, developed by the American company Novovax, is manufactured in India by the Serum Institute under the name Covovax. Hyderabad-based Biological E is being developed locally by Corbevax.

Both are vaccines developed using the same component of the Covid virus. This is the first time such vaccines have been approved in the country. The DCGI expert committee, which examined the details of the experiments conducted in several stages, recommended the approval.

Mulnopiravir is a capsule that can be used in patients with severe symptoms. The drug, which can be taken in 200 mg capsules for five days, is approved for use in adults only. The drug is manufactured by thirteen companies. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of Health to discuss vaccination and reserve dosage and distribution among adolescents. Chief secretaries and medical officers of the states attended the meeting. Meanwhile, Omicron has so far confirmed 653 cases in 21 states and Union Territories.
