Cricketer Arshdeep Singh India’s Pride, Every Indian Stands With Him: BJP
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today referred to cricketer Arshdeep Singh as the “pride of India” and claimed that each and every Indian stands for the left-arm spinner.
Mr. Chugh also applauded the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s move against Wikipedia for allowing “Khalistani” insults to appear on Arshdeep Singh’s page after he missed a catch at a vital period of the India-Pakistan T20 match on Sunday in Dubai.
“India is proud of Arshdeep. From Punjab, he is a rising star, and all Indians support him. It is necessary to take harsh legal action against individuals who write hateful comments about him “Mr. Chugh, a native of Punjab, stated.
But the #IStandWithArshdeep movement on Twitter helped the bowler as well. Cross-party leaders in Punjab also came out in favour of him. After failing to catch Pakistani batter Asif Ali during a match in Dubai on Monday, the 23-year-old bowler faced abuse online and was referred to as a “Khalistani.”
In the Super 4 match, Pakistan ultimately defeated India by a margin of five wickets. The bowler’s name was changed to “Major Arshdeep Singh Bajwa” and his nation was changed to “Khalistan Punjab” in his Wikipedia article. Several times throughout the page, India was changed to Khalistan; however, these modifications were quickly reversed by Wikipedia editors.
