CPP Investments Partners with CtrlS Datacenters in ₹7,000 Crore Deal
Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) has announced a strategic partnership with India’s CtrlS Datacenters, committing a total investment of ₹70 billion (approximately $740.5 million) to support the expansion of the country’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure sector. The investment includes ₹40 billion for acquiring an 8.2% stake in CtrlS Datacenters, reinforcing investor confidence in India’s booming data center market.
As part of the agreement, CPP Investments and CtrlS will establish a joint venture to develop data center campuses across India. CPP Investments will commit up to ₹30 billion to the venture and hold a 48% stake, while CtrlS will retain the remaining 52%. The partnership aims to expand data center capacity to meet increasing demand from cloud service providers, artificial intelligence applications, and India’s fast-growing digital economy.
The deal comes amid a surge in hyperscale data center development across India, driven by major global technology companies including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. Backed by government efforts to attract AI-related investments, India’s data center industry is expected to nearly double in size, reaching $13.11 billion by 2034, according to consulting firm IMARC Group.
