Brembo, Ningbo SAFE Launch India ABS Venture for Motorcycles
Italian braking systems manufacturer Brembo has partnered with China’s Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems to establish a new joint venture in India focused on producing anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for motorcycles. The new company, BRSF Active Safety Solutions, will be based in Chakan near Pune, with Brembo holding a 60% stake.
The venture will manufacture and supply both single-channel and dual-channel ABS units for motorcycle manufacturers operating in India. Production will take place at a dedicated facility that is expected to employ around 50 people initially, with workforce expansion planned as output increases. The company will operate under Brembo’s BYBRE brand, which specializes in braking solutions for motorcycles.
The partnership comes as India considers stricter road safety regulations, including a proposal to make ABS mandatory for motorcycles with engine capacities below 125cc. With India’s two-wheeler market estimated at up to 25 million vehicles, Brembo said the venture reflects its commitment to supporting the evolution of motorcycle safety standards in one of the world’s largest motorcycle markets.
