Congress’s Pawan Khera Arrested By Assam Cops Soon After He Was Deplaned

Congressman Pawan Khera was deplaned from a flight to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, and was then detained at the Delhi airport. On the tarmac, over 50 members of Congress staged a rare protest and halted the flight.

Senior Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera was compelled to leave the IndiGo flight. He was travelling to Raipur with a sizable contingent of Congress leaders to attend an All India Congress Committee conference (AICC).

The Assam Police detained Pawan Khera after they arrived at the airport with a FIR, or First Information Report. On the tarmac of the Delhi airport, dozens of Congress leaders disembarked and staged a sit-in protest while yelling slogans.

IndiGo Airline said: “A passenger was deplaned by the police at the Delhi airport from Raipur-bound flight 6E 204. Some other passengers have also decided to deboard on their own accord. We are following the advice of the concerned authorities. The flight is delayed as of now and we regret the inconvenience caused to other passengers.”

Mr Khera said he was first told that there was trouble with his baggage. “I was told that there is an issue with my baggage, though I only had hand baggage. They told me you can’t fly. Then they said the DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) will meet you. I have been waiting for a long time. There is no sign of law and order,” he said.

In response to accusations that Mr. Khera insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has called for his arrest. Following a police complaint from a BJP representative, a FIR was launched.
