Congress Leader: Droupadi Murmu “Represents Very Evil Philosophy of India”

Following party leader Ajoy Kumar’s “evil philosophy” remark about NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came down hard on Congress and demanded that the grand-old party apologise to the entire tribal population. Shehzad Poonawalla, the national spokesperson for the BJP, told ANI on Wednesday that Ms. Murmu has risen from the bottom up and that Kumar’s comment is an insult to her.

“What is bad about the mindset of someone who overcame obstacles, won an election from the grassroots, served as an MLA, received the best MLA award, and is free of all evidence of corruption? What in it is wicked, exactly?” inquired Mr. Poonawalla.

“The language used by the Congress party especially Ajoy Kumar that she (Ms Murmu) represents an evil philosophy and that she does not symbolize the Adivasi community is not just an insult of Droupadi Murmu, her struggles in life but the way she has risen from grassroots but an insult of the entire Adivasi community. The Congress party must explain or else they must apologize for the statement that they have made insulting not just Droupadi Murmuji but the entire Adivasi community,” he added.

For the July 18 presidential elections, Congress-led opposition parties have put former union minister Yashwant Sinha up against Ms. Murmu.

Droupadi Murmu will be India’s second female president and the nation’s first tribal leader if she is elected. She was Jharkhand’s first female governor (from 2015 to 2021). Despite difficult conditions, Ms. Murmu finished her studies despite being born into a low-income tribal household in the rural Odisha state of Mayurbhanj. On Tuesday, Ajoy Kumar sparked controversy by claiming that Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s presidential nominee, symbolises a “very wicked mindset of India” and shouldn’t be considered a “symbol of Adivasi.””It’s not about Droupadi Murmu. Yashwant Sinha is also a good candidate and Ms Murmu is also a decent person. But she represents a very evil philosophy of India. We should not make her a symbol of ‘Adivasi’. We have President Ram Nath Kovind, Hathras happened. Has he said a word? The condition of Scheduled Castes has become worse,” Mr Kumar said.
