CJP Leaders Detained Ahead of Delhi Protest
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) said its founder Abhijeet Dipke and spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained inside their flight shortly after landing in Delhi on Saturday. The detentions came ahead of the party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and changes involving Form 6, used for voter registration.
The party condemned the detentions as authoritarian, alleging that the police action was intended to disrupt the peaceful demonstration before it began. Dipke had earlier stated that he was prepared for arrest and was not afraid. CJP also claimed that its legal head, Ratna Singh, was detained before the protest, alleging that police officials failed to produce documents authorising the action.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was reportedly detained from his Gurugram residence, while content creator Kavya Karnatac was detained at Dhaula Kuan before reaching the protest site. Karnatac questioned the police action, saying she was not part of a large group and had done nothing wrong. The detentions have drawn attention ahead of the CJP’s planned demonstration in the national capital.
