Chinese Envoy Proposes India-China Tech Collaboration for Agricultural Revolution
Yu Jing, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, has proposed a strategic partnership merging China’s advanced drone hardware with India’s “Namo Drone Didi” initiative to transform the agrarian landscapes of both nations. Highlighting the concept on X (formerly Twitter), Jing suggested that combining China’s agricultural drone advancements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s women-centric tech program could create a powerful “1+1 > 2” impact. The proposed alliance envisions placing rural women at the center of a technological revolution, establishing a scalable blueprint for sustainable farming across the developing world.
In China, agricultural drones have transitioned from high-tech novelties into mainstream farming equipment, with over 250,000 machines currently handling traditional manual labor. These “flying tractors” are utilized for precision seeding in difficult terrains, automated granular fertilizer spreading that cuts waste by nearly 30%, and turnkey harvesting logistics driven by multispectral imagery. Meanwhile, India’s ₹1,261-crore Namo Drone Didi central sector scheme focuses on a human-centric approach, putting unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology directly into the hands of rural women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
A partnership is highly strategic given that China currently commands approximately 70 percent of the global market for innovative UAV technologies. Regional UAV operations expert Sardor Gulomov noted that utilizing these drones will help establish a robust service system for land users. By merging China’s massive hardware manufacturing ecosystem with India’s mobilized network of certified rural female pilots, the collaboration could successfully drive sustainable agricultural intensification while economically empowering women at the grassroots level.
