Chhattisgarh police detains renowned journalist Vinod Verma on alleged ‘extortion charges’

Exposing the dark side of the journalism profession, senior journalist Vinod Verma, a former BBC Digital Editor, has been arrested by the Chhattisgarh police on alleged charges of extortion.

As per the report, the renowned journalist has been taken into custody from his home in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

It is learned that he tried to blackmail a politician with the help of some sensitive information regarding the politician’s family life that he clandestinely secured.

Interestingly, the media houses have reported that the Chhattisgarh police have not informed the Uttar Pradesh police any details regarding Verma’s arrest.

Several journalists have used their twitter handles to express doubts about the case, defending the arrested journalist, who has, in fact, a very high reputation in the journalist community.

An AAP leader has asked, through his twitter handle, that whether the action against the journalist is any kind of attack on press or not.

It is said that the case against the journalist has been registered in Raipur district, Chhattisgarh. As per the information, the charges, related to extortion and criminal intimidation, have been framed against the media person.

If the journalist is found guilty, he will get severe punishment.
