CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Warns Pakistan: India Won’t Tolerate Terror or Nuclear Blackmail
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan delivered a strong message to Pakistan during a lecture on ‘Future Wars and Warfare’ at Savitribai Phule Pune University on June 3. Emphasizing that India will no longer live under the threat of terrorism or nuclear intimidation, he said, “Pakistan should not be able to hold India hostage to terrorist activities.” He described the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, as “profound cruelty,” and highlighted Operation Sindoor as a necessary response to end state-sponsored terrorism.
General Chauhan revealed that Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, involved Indian forces striking deep—300 kilometers—into Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting terror infrastructure with pinpoint accuracy. He added that while losses may occur in war, the outcomes are what truly matter. The CDS also underscored the importance of political will and communication during modern warfare, noting that politics and war often run parallel.
Responding to a question on whether an Indian jet was downed during the operation, General Chauhan told Bloomberg TV, “What is important is not the jet being downed, but why they were being downed.” He also rebuked Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s recent remarks calling Kashmir Pakistan’s “jugular vein,” stressing that India’s tolerance for such provocations has limits.
