Bride and groom hacked to death at party, another shameful murder in Tamil Nadu
Another shameful murder in Tamil Nadu after a hiatus. Saranya and Mohan, a recently married couple, were brutally hacked to death by the bride’s own brother. The two were hacked to death by their relatives after they were called to a party yesterday evening. Saranya and Mohan were hacked to death by their brother Sakthivel and cousin Ranjith when they reached home. Saranya and Mohan belong to two castes. The accused have been absconding since the murder.
Saranya and Mohan got married only five days ago. Saranya was a native of Tulukkaveli in Cholapuram near Kumbakonam. Mohan, 31, and Saranya, 22, meet while working at a private hospital in Tirunelveli. Nurse Saranya came to work at the hospital some time ago. Saranya and Mohan belong to the backward class.
When they expressed their love in their own home, Saranya’s family vehemently opposed their marriage. Surviving the pressure of a family that insisted on marrying someone from their own community, the couple decided to move to Chennai to live together. The couple got married on June 9 in Chennai.
On learning of the marriage, Saranya’s brother Sakthivel apologized to both of them and asked Saranya to return home. Sakthivel told the two that they could stay at their own house in Cholapuram and come back. The two, who arrived home happily yesterday, stepped into the yard of the house and were stabbed by a force, a relative and a sword.
A lookout notice has been issued for the accused who went into hiding after the murder. The bodies of Saranya and Mohan are being kept at the Kumbakonam District Hospital. After the post-mortem, the bodies of the two will be handed over to Mohan’s relatives.
