‘Breaking Bad’ In Mumbai? Chemistry Grad Arrested In 1,400 Crores Drug Haul
Following a raid at a drug production facility in Nalasopara of the Palghar district, Mumbai police confiscated more than 700 kg of mephedrone valued at INR 1,400 crore and detained five people, among them a post-graduate in organic chemistry, an official said here on Thursday.
He claimed that the raid at the unit was carried out by the Mumbai criminal branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC).”The action was carried out based on specific inputs. The ANC team raided the premises, during which it found that mephedrone, a banned drug, was being manufactured,” he said.
“While four of the accused were arrested in Mumbai, one person was held in Nalasopara,” the official said.
An organic chemistry post-graduate who was arrested in Nalasopara utilised his knowledge of the subject to produce narcotics, according to a police official.
He continued, “This is one of the largest narcotics hauls by the city police in recent memory.”
Mephedrone is a synthetic stimulant and psychoactive drug that is illegal under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. It is often referred to as “meow meow” or “MD.”
