Bill raising the age of marriage may not be introduced in Parliament today

The bill to raise the age of marriage for women may not be introduced in Parliament today. Though it was hinted that the bill would be brought in the Rajya Sabha today, it has not been included in the agenda yet. The government has remained silent on the bill. If it is decided in the morning to present, the bill can be brought as an additional agenda.

At the same time, Congress may decide today what position to take on the bill. Disagreements continue in Congress over this issue. There is confusion in Congress as to whether to vote against the bill even when it is opposed. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has said he agrees with raising the age of marriage. However, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal rejected the bill.

But the CPM has decided to ask that the bill be left to the Standing Committee. The proposal to leave the bill to the Standing Committee was put forward by the CPM Politburo meeting. The Muslim League, SP and MIM have made it clear that they will oppose the bill. But parties, including the Trinamool Congress, remain silent. Meanwhile, a bill to link the voter list with Aadhaar will be introduced in the Lok Sabha today. The bill, which includes provisions for out-of-court arbitration, is on the agenda of the Rajya Sabha today.

The suspended Rajya Sabha MPs may withdraw from the discussion called by the Central Government. The meeting of the Leaders of the Opposition will be held at 9.30 am to take a final decision in this regard. The government is scheduled to hold a meeting at 10 am. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi called the MPs for a discussion. Elamaram Kareem and Binoy Vishwa said that all opposition parties should be called for talks.
