Bengaluru Woman Exposes Fake Rapido App Scam Used by Drivers to Overcharge Passengers
A Bengaluru-based woman, Meenal Goel, recently exposed a shocking new scam involving drivers using a counterfeit version of the Rapido app to overcharge unsuspecting customers. In a viral LinkedIn and Instagram post, Goel recounted how a Rapido driver tried to charge her ₹650 instead of the actual ₹532 fare for a ride from Bengaluru Airport. Suspicious of the discrepancy, she asked to see the driver’s app, only to discover it was a fake one designed to mimic Rapido’s official interface.
Goel revealed that upon closer inspection, the driver panicked and admitted to using the fraudulent app. The most concerning part of this scam, she noted, is that the inflated amount isn’t recorded on the real Rapido platform, leaving customers unable to file complaints or seek refunds. Following her post, Rapido promptly responded, investigated the issue, and confirmed that the driver’s account had been suspended to prevent further misuse.
The viral post sparked widespread concern among social media users, with several others sharing similar experiences of inflated fares on platforms like Rapido and Uber. Many called for stricter verification measures and urged users to double-check the driver’s app before making payments. Goel’s experience serves as a timely warning for commuters to remain vigilant against evolving digital fraud tactics in the ride-hailing industry.
