Apple Agrees to Submit India Financial Data in Key Antitrust Investigation

Apple has agreed to provide financial details of its India operations to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), marking a significant development in the country’s long-running antitrust investigation into the company’s App Store practices. The move comes after Apple resisted requests for financial disclosures since 2024, arguing that regulators could use global revenue figures to calculate potential penalties.

The CCI’s investigation concluded that Apple may have abused its dominant position in the iPhone app ecosystem by requiring developers to use its in-app payment system and limiting alternative payment options. While Apple has denied any wrongdoing and continues to challenge the findings, it has now requested until June 25 to submit India-specific financial information, which regulators say is necessary for assessing any possible fines.

The case, originally filed by Indian startups, app developers, and Match Group, is one of Apple’s most significant regulatory challenges in India. The company has expanded rapidly in the country in recent years, increasing both iPhone sales and local manufacturing. With Apple now cooperating on financial disclosures, the investigation moves closer to a final decision on whether penalties or corrective measures will be imposed.
