Lakshya Sen advances to the semifinals of the German Open

Lakshya Sen, the World Championships bronze medalist, advanced to the semifinals of the German Open Super 300 tournament in the men’s singles with a straight-game win over fellow Indian H S Prannoy on Friday.

Sen, who won his first Super 500 title at the India Open in January, defeated Prannoy, a former top 10 player, 21-15 21-16 in 39 minutes. In the quarterfinals of the India Open, the world number 14 defeated Prannoy, who is currently ranked 24th. Sen will now face the winner of the other quarterfinal match, which will be played on Saturday between Olympic champion and top seed Viktor Axelsen and India’s Kidambi Srikanth. Sen stunned fourth-seeded Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in a second-round match on Thursday, winning 21-7 21-9.

Prannoy got off to a good start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead early on. However, Sen caught up to him at 10-10 and surged ahead after the break to take a 1-0 lead in the tie. The second game started out tight, with the two players neck and neck, with Sen holding a slim 11-10 lead at halftime. Sen, like in the first game, responded with a five-point burst to comfortably seal the victory.
