Aditya Birla Capital Enters Gold Loan Market, Aims for 1,000 Branches
Aditya Birla Capital has officially entered India’s gold loan market with plans to open nearly 1,000 dedicated branches over the next three years to expand its secured lending business. As part of its initial rollout, the company’s non-banking financial division aims to establish 200 to 300 gold loan branches across high-potential regions by March 2027. The new venture will cater to urban and semi-urban customers through a blend of physical branches and digital channels, leveraging its existing retail and small-business client base.
The strategic expansion comes as global gold prices remain elevated, driven by safe-haven demand linked to international conflicts like the Iran war. These high valuations have significantly boosted the worth of jewelry pledged as collateral, enhancing growth prospects and stability across India’s collateral-backed lending sector. By entering this growing space, Aditya Birla Capital intends to strengthen its overall credit offerings alongside its current secured and unsecured loan portfolio.
With this entry, Aditya Birla Capital will directly compete with well-established specialized gold loan operators, including Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance. By combining a widespread branch footprint with digital access platforms, the financial services firm aims to capture a sizable portion of the expanding market for quick, asset-backed consumer and small-business credit.
